Blended-learning: DepEd seeking ‘best and brightest teacher-broadcasters’

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) is looking for teacher-broadcasters who will help in the production of video and audio episodes that will be used for blended learning in the upcoming school year.

In OUA Memorandum 00-0720-0053 issued by Education Undersecretary Alain Pascua on July 16, DepEd said the search for teacher-broadcasters is in line with preparation for the production of DepEd TV, DepEd Radio, and DepEd Teleradyo video and audio episode that will be broadcast nationwide beginning August 24 when classes resume.

“There is a need to select 86 to 172 of the best and brightest teacher-broadcasters who will teach subjects before cameras/microphones for video and audio episodes which will be broadcasted nationwide,” the memo read.

Pascua said DepEd has issued a list of needed teacher-broadcasters and the subject matters they are expected to have mastery of. There are also 20 competencies or criteria needed for a teacher-broadcaster to be considered.

Aside from these criteria, the applicant should also be confident, physically and mentally fit, outgoing, creative and socially savvy, computer and smartphone literate, and have a camera phone and strong internet connection.

They should also preferably have experience in video or social media content creation, public speaking, speech and drama or performance, can commit to attending webinars and trainings, and must be able to have a technical support team who will help in the recording and editing of video and audio episodes.

Interested teachers should register at bit.ly/depedtbaf, upload their resume and brief profile, submit a five-minute video demonstrating mastery on the applied subject or grade level on or before July 24, Friday, at 12 noon.

Applicants may watch the sample video at bit.ly/DepEdTeacherBroadcaster for reference and guide. They should surpass the sample video with more constant eye contact, ease of delivery, and mastery of the lesson, according to the memo.

Also, all applicants must be in proper teacher uniform and must discuss in five minutes the first portion of the first lesson of the grade level and subject they are applying for as defined by the Most Essential Learning Competencies posted at  https://www.commons.deped.gov.ph/melc.

“The sample videos should be in landscape mode, recorded in 720p format, and in a classroom setting taking into consideration the 20 competencies/criteria, the reference video, and the MELCs,” the memo added.

The 86 to 172 applicants who will be selected based on these requirements will be further vetted by the concerned divisions and regions, DepEd said.

Those who will be included in the final list will undergo training by TV and radio personalities and experts.

“They will also be detailed for such specific and special tasks for SY 2020-2021,” the memo likewise noted.
