MANILA, Philippines — The enrollment rate in both public and private elementary and secondary schools in Makati City for the coming school year has exceeded 100 percent, even with the threat posed by the new coronavirus pandemic.

At the end of the enlistment period on July 15, a total of 77,339 students from kinder to senior high school had registered, Mayor Abby Binay said on Wednesday.

The total exceeded the 76,599 enrollees last year.

“To me, this mirrors the enthusiasm and drive of our students to continue learning. To our #ProudMakatizen students, know that we are behind you all the way,” Binay added.

The city government has allotted a budget of P236.5 million to provide all public school students with a “learner’s package” and free daily internet load when classes resume in August, mostly through distance learning.

Each learner’s package has an “on-the-go” (OTG) flash drive containing digitized learning modules, printed copies of the modules and two washable face masks in a pouch.
