A screenshot of the video posted by Arles delos Santos showed NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas and his men at the Taguig compound, which the NCRPO claiming belonged to the police regional office.

MANILA, Philippines — The family of retired Police Senior Executive Master Sergeant Arnel delos Santos reportedly abused their stay in the compound of Taguig after allegedly allowing most of the family to live there as well as consuming high electricity bills in the area, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Tuesday.

“Akala namin si Delos Santos lang at asawa niya ang nakatira. Nung nalaman namin ang dami pala nila. Lahat ng magkakapatid, lahat ng apo andun, kung hindi abuso yun ewan ko na lang. Kayo na mag-judge,” Metro Manila police chief Major Gen. Debold Sinas said during the NCRPO press briefing at Camp Karingal.

Southern Police District (SPD) chief Col. Emmanuel Peralta said after an inspection in the compound, they also found that the Delos Santos family’s electricity consumption is reaching as high as P40,000.

“Hahabulin natin yan. ‘Yan ang kine-case build up natin pati Meralco (Manila Electric Company) personnel sabi sa amin kahapon may P40,000 monthly average bill kayo dito. Then, tinignan na may electric equipment sa building,” Peralta said.

(We are conducting case build-up, even Meralco personnel told us yesterday that there is an average of P40,000 monthly bill there. We also found a piece of electric equipment in the building.)

“Ininspect niya (Meralco personnel) tapos nakita niya may jumper. Ibe-verify natin sa office, titignan yung billing natin, it will form part of our documentary evidence for our case filing,” he added.

(They inspected it and then they saw a jumper. We will verify first from the office, we will see the billing and it will form part of our documentary evidence for our case filing.)

Denial of extension, dialogue letter

The Metro Manila police already denied the request of Delos Santos to extend their stay inside their house in Taguig Compound, which is part of NCRPO Regional Direct Support Unit (RDSU), Peralta revealed.

“Nagpadala sila (Delos Santos) ng letter, naka-address sa regional director na nakikiusap na palawigin pa yung pagtira sa RDSU office. At sinagot ng camp commander ng regional headquarters at dinisapprove po ng Regional Director,” Peralta said.

(They sent a letter, addressed to the regional director to ask an extension to live inside the RDSU office. Our Camp Commander of Regional Headquarters answered it and it was disapproved by the regional director.)

A letter dated Feb. 5, 2020, shared with reporters showed that NCRPO disapproved Delos Santos’ request and has given him 10 days to leave the building.

“This pertains to the response of our Regional Director MGen Debold Sinas regarding your personal letter request to extend your stay at the Old RDSU Compound Lawton Ave. Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, which has been disapproved and signed on January 30, 2020,” read the letter.

“In view of foregoing, you are hereby given a non-extendible period of ten days from the receipt hereof to voluntarily vacate the premises you are occupying,” it added.

Peralta also said they sent a letter of request from Delos Santos’ to attend a dialogue with police officials to talk about a win-win solution on their eviction.

“Kahapon nagpadala ng notice sa pamilya para magattend ng dialogue kahit pinapaalis na sila sa RDSU office, sinusubukan natin magdialogue para magkaroon nang mas maayos at win-win na resulta na pakikipagusap sa pamilya Delos Santos,” he said.

(Yesterday we sent a notice to their family to attend a dialogue, even after we already asked them to leave the office, we are requesting them for dialogue to have a more diplomatic and win-win result of a dialogue with the Delos Santos family.)

Last Saturday, Arles delos Santos, son of the retired policeman, took to social media to raise alarm about NCRPO’s confrontation on their eviction.
