Another area in Pasig City has been placed indefinitely under localized enhanced community quarantine (LECQ) starting July 20 due to the high number of cases of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In an online post, Mayor Vico Sotto identified the affected area as Ventura Compound on F. Mariano Street in Barangay Dela Paz.
On Sunday, Sotto also placed under LECQ the streets of Pipino, Labanos, Okra and Ubas in Napico, Barangay Manggahan. He said that food packs would be distributed to residents in these areas to minimize their need to go out.
Under LECQ, residents are allowed only to leave their houses for work and emergency reasons. Health protocols being implemented by the city and the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases shall be strictly implemented.
As of July 19, Barangay Manggahan had 110 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 54 of these active, with seven deaths and 49 recoveries.
Barangay Dela Paz, on the other hand, has 25 confirmed cases, 16 of these active with two deaths and seven recoveries.
However, Barangay Pinagbuhatan has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the city with 238 confirmed cases. Of these, 123 are active with 14 deaths and 101 recoveries.
The city health office said there were a total of 1,286 confirmed cases in Pasig, 514 of these active with 97 deaths and 675 recoveries.
Sotto earlier announced that The Medical City was now at its “full capacity,” just as other major hospitals in Metro Manila were due to the sudden surge in COVID-19 cases. The city’s referral center, as of last week, was also “nearing [its] limits,” he said.
“Overall, I have to admit that the numbers are not that comforting,” Sotto added, reiterating the need for residents to continue to practice physical distancing, hand-washing and other health protocols to combat the spread of the virus. INQ
