As Bulacan’s COVID-19 cases zoom past 1,000, lockdowns loom in selected areas

CITY OF MALOLOS—The number of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Bulacan jumped to 1,089 last Sunday (July 19), prompting the provincial government to study enforcing lockdowns on selected areas.

The lockdowns, according to Gov. Daniel Fernando, would be based on assessments by local government units in the province.

Fernando said Bulacan would remain on modified general community quarantine, dismissing reports circulating on social media that the entire province would be placed on total lockdown.

He said he will meet with Bulacan mayors this week to discuss the implementation of what he described as localized, or selective, lockdowns.

The City of San Jose del Monte recorded the highest tally in the province with 219 confirmed cases as of Sunday.
