TAGBILARAN CITY – A “community transmission” of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) may have caused the infection of Bohol’s latest patient, a 13-year-old boy, said Bohol Gov. Arthur Yap.

“We have not been able to trace the source of the infection so the possibility exists that an asymptomatic carrier of the virus, walks among us,” he said in a video message on Facebook on Sunday.

The boy, a resident of Purok Centro 1 in Barangay Dampas, has not displayed any symptoms of the disease and has been under home quarantine.

Dr. Mutya Kismet Tirol-Macuno, chief of the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital (GCGMH), said a 72-year-old man from Alicia town also acquired the disease through community transmission.

Yap urged residents to continue wearing face masks and to observe physical distancing when in public places to stop the spread of the virus.

“Considering we have not yet identified the source of the infection of this community transmission, I am calling on our mayors, barangay officials and the PNP, to strictly enforce our health standards in Bohol, “he said.

Bohol has recorded 69 COVID-19 cases with three deaths.
