Manila hospital hits 100% capacity of COVID-19 ward; to close ER temporarily

MANILA, Philippines — Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center in Manila City has reached full capacity of its COVID-19 ward and would temporarily close its emergency room for cleaning and disinfection.

In a memorandum shared with the media by the city government, Hospital Director Teodoro Martin said the emergency room would be closed starting Monday until Thursday, July 23.

He noted that at present, 76 COVID-related cases are admitted to the hospital, 52 of which are confirmed cases.

The COVID ward of the hospital has already reached 100% while it’s isolation tents are already “beyond full capacity with pending COVID confirmed patient admissions.”

On top of that, 53 of its healthcare workers are on “active quarantine” in the hospital, four of which are doctors while 12 are nurses.

“Please bear with us and kindly accommodate patients that may be transferred to your hospital,” he wrote in the letter. [ac]
