Spaniard to finish quarantine in jail after destructive streak in isolation facility

COTABATO CITY—Police in Kidapawan City moved a Spanish national, who was on quarantine, from an isolation facility to a jail cell after the foreigner went berserk, destroying facilities in his isolation room.

Col. Ramil Hojilla, Kidapawan police chief, said 74-year-old Gonzales de Langarica Moriño was on quarantine at a lodging facility converted into a quarantine center.

When police came, Morino continued to be unruly, prompting the law enforcers to haul him to jail where he would spend the rest of his quarantine period, Hojilla said.

According to Hojilla, Moriño was on his seventh day of quarantine when he was moved to the police jal.

Police estimated the damage to Moriño’s room at P20,000.

Moriño was classified as a COVID-19 probable patient and sent to quarantine for 14 days.

Originally from Barcelona, Moriño was married to a Filipina and has been living in Kidapawan, said Hojilla.

Hojilla said police are coordinating with the Bureau of Immigration for Moriño’s possible deportation.
