MANILA, Philippines — Former chairman of Commission on Elections and his wife were diagnosed as having the coronavirus disease, Mandaluyong Mayor Menchie Abalos announced on Friday.
Abalos said the positive results of her parents-in-law, Benjamin and Corazon Abalos, were released this morning.
“Actually kahapon pa namin dinala ang mommy sa hospital, and ang daddy this morning nung lumabas ang result ng test nila na positive sila and they both have symptoms,” Mayor Abalos said in a text message to reporters.
(Actually, we just took them to the hospital yesterday. This morning when test results were released, and they both have symptoms.)
Mayor Abalos noted that she would be under home quarantine because she was exposed to her parents-in-law.
She also assured the public that operations at Mandaluyong City Hall would not be affected despite her home quarantine.
Benjamin Abalos Sr. was the former chair of Commission on Elections from 2002 to 2007. He also served as the chair of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority in 2001.
He was also a former Mandaluyong mayor in 1988. [ac]
