La Union lodges 17 new COVID-19 cases in 1 day

SAN FERNANDO CITY –– La Union listed 17 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Thursday, which local officials said was the highest tally in the province in a single day.

The new cases brought to 46 the total number of COVID-19 cases in the province with 21 active cases, 19 recoveries, and six deaths.

Caba town registered the most number of new cases with eight patients, followed by this city with five, and one each in the towns of Aringay, Bauang, Balaoan, and San Juan.

Caba Mayor Philip Caesar Crispino, who put the town under strict monitoring and advised residents to strictly stay at home, said seven of the patients were asymptomatic.

In this city, Mayor Alfredo Pablo Ortega said the five patients aged 30 to 36 years old are residents of different villages, which he had put on heightened community quarantine for 72 hours.

These villages are Sevilla, Poro, Catbangen, Dalumpinas Oeste, and Langcuas.

The youngest patient is a resident of Aringay town, a 14-year-old boy, who was swabbed when he consulted a doctor because of his asthma.

In Balaoan, a 56-year-old employee of the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center was also found positive for COVID-19.

A 40-year-old provincial prosecutor also tested positive for the virus, when all provincial prosecutors were swabbed after a regional trial court judge was infected by the virus.
