Man kills 88-year-old father in QC after altercation

MANILA, Philippines — A man was arrested by the police after stabbing to death his 88-year-old father following a heated altercation inside their house in Quezon City on Friday morning.

A report from Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU)  said the crime was discovered by the brother of the 64-year-old suspect who found their father’s lifeless body around 8 a.m. inside their residence in Barangay San Francisco Del Monte, Quezon City.

The victim expired due to stab wounds, while the suspect, who is allegedly armed with a knife and handgun, locked himself inside his room, police said.

In an interview with dzBB, Col. Ferdinand Navarro, deputy district director for operation of QCPD, said the family members sought help from barangay officials and police authorities, who then asked the suspect to surrender to them.

The suspect, however, refused to yield, which led QCPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team to negotiate with the suspect. After a few minutes, the suspect surrendered and was rushed to a nearby hospital to treat wounds in his left shoulder.

Initial investigation showed that the father and son had a heated argument on land titles prior to the killing.

The suspect is now under the QCPD’s custody while appropriate cases are being prepared against him.

Police said the family had asked to conceal the names of the victim and the suspect.
