LUCENA CITY –– Four barangays in Guinayangan town in Quezon province were placed on lockdown on Friday after seven new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases were recorded in these villages.
The municipal Public Information Office (PIO) announced on social media that the local government had placed the villages of Tikay, Aloneros, Danlagan Batis, and Gapas under 24-hour isolation starting Friday for contact tracing.
The seven new carriers contracted the virus from the locality’s second COVID-19 patient recorded on July 14, the PIO said.
“Out of 21 individuals who had exposure with Patient #2, seven turned out positive,” the PIO said. The seven new patients were all asymptomatic, it added.
Guinayangan, located in the province’s fourth district, now has nine COVID-19 cases, but the first patient has recovered.
Two other towns in Quezon –– Lopez and Gumaca –– also recorded one confirmed COVID-19 case each, the provincial PIO said.
Quezon, now still under modified general community quarantine, has recorded 227 COVID-19 cases, with 13 deaths, 46 active cases, and 168 recoveries.
The Quezon PIO report also showed that among the suspected virus carriers, 70 have died.
Authorities in different parts of the province still keep watching over 86 suspected virus carriers confined in medical facilities and another 82 on home quarantine.
Of the 41 municipalities in the province, 12 remain COVID-19-free.
