Pasig hits 93% of enrollment target

A Department of Education official in Pasig City on Thursday encouraged parents to enroll their children this coming school year, saying the local government will provide all their education-related needs, including laptops or tablets and printed learning modules.

“To all our students and youth in Pasig, we urge you to enroll because the city government has prepared everything that you need for the school year,” Pasig Schools Division Superintendent Evalou Agustin said.

She told the Inquirer that as of the last day of enrollment on July 15, a total of 131,000 students had signed up, or 93 percent of the city’s target.

Mayor Vico Sotto earlier reiterated that all of the city’s public school students will automatically be issued laptops or tablets with the initial distribution to be done from Aug. 7 to 14 in time for the first day of school on Aug. 24.

There are 138,000 tablets being prepared for all students from kindergarten to senior high school.

Over 3,000 senior high school students and some junior high school students (previous enrollees taking courses related to Information and Communication Technology) will get laptops.

“We have already identified the class who will get the laptops because they have previously enrolled and we already know their courses,” Agustin said.

Based on the timeline presented by Agustin to Sotto in an online meeting, there will also be a simulation of classes and distribution of printed and digital learning modules from July 20 to 24.

From July 27 to 31, there will be training of parents based on simulation and continuous distribution of printed student learning materials.

The city government would also provide hotspots for downloading of modules and raise another P30 million to provide laptops and/or tablets for teachers and students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig.

In an earlier briefing, Sotto said the city has raised P1.2 billion for students’ tablets, laptops and urged the students to register for the classes.

“Don’t give up school. Just enroll. You won’t have to spend extra,” the mayor said.
