BuCor officer found dead with gunshot wound to head inside NBP

MANILA, Philippines — A 29-year-old officer of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City on Wednesday evening.

“Opo..naka duty siya last night at noong nag check ang roving supervisor ay napansin niya unresponsive yung bata (Corrections officer). May gunshot wound sa right temple,” BuCor spokesman Col. Gabriel Chaclag said in a text message to reporters on Thursday when asked about reports of a Corrections officer who died at NBP.

(Yes, he was on duty last night and when our roving supervisor was checking, he saw that the officer was unresponsive. He has a gunshot wound at the right temple.)

In an updated report, the victim was identified as Corrections Officer 1 (CO1) Edmund Molina, who was assigned at Medium Security Compound.

The report said Molina was found dead at Post Tower 4 of the Medium Security Compound at 5 a.m.

Chaclag said investigators are still investigating whether there was foul play in the death of the officer.

Muntinlupa City Police and BuCor’s NBP Investigation Section will conduct further probe into Molina’s death, Chaclag said. [muf]
