Caloocan village under 6-day lockdown

MANILA, Philippines — Barangay 38 in Caloocan City was placed under total lockdown for six days to suppress the further spread of coronavirus disease, city government said on Wednesday.

In an advisory, Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan said the total lockdown took effect on July 14, Tuesday and will end at midnight of July 20, Monday.

Malapitan said the total lockdown will allow contact tracing and mass testing of residents in the area.

“Dahil sa pagtaas ng kaso ng Covid19 sa nasabing barangay, minabuti ng Punong-Lungsod na magtotal lockdown sa lugar upang magsagawa ng mabilis na contact tracing at mass testing,” read the advisory.

As of July 13, Barangay 38 logged 42 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease, city government said.

Malapitan also vowed that they will distribute relief goods as villagers are not allowed to go outside of their homes during the lockdown.

To date, Caloocan City has 1,508 COVID-19 cases with 85 deaths and 733 recoveries.
