Theft suspects charged in court

Charges were filed in court yesterday against the two men who were arrested for their alleged involvement in a series of thefts in hotels and pension houses in Cebu.

Michael Reyes and Edward Teves will be facing trial for illegal possession of firearms, drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Bail was recommended at P320,000 for each of the accused.

Asst. City Prosecutor Ernesto Narido elevated the charges in court against the two accused who failed to refute the allegations hurled against them.

Reyes and Teves earlier opted to submit their counter-affidavits within 10 days since they were presented before the prosecutor for inquest proceedings

Narido said the two accused failed to submit their counter-affidavits.

Reyes is reportedly wanted for a theft case in the US where his family is based.

Last Jan. 3, patrolling members of the Cebu City Police Office spotted a vehicle along Gen. Maxilom Avenue in Cebu City.

One of the policemen noticed that the vehicle with plate number PII-399 seemed to be the same vehicle used in a theft incident a day before.

The police tried to block the vehicle.

The two accused later disembarked from the vehicle and fled.

Police, however, chased and arrested the two men.

Recovered from Reyes were a .45 pistol, .38 revolver, .45 magazine, .45 bullets and six bullets of a .38 caliber.

Police got from Teves a .45 pistol, .45 magazine, and 10 bullets of .45 pistol.

Also seized from the two accused were four transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu weighing 0.06 grams, glass tooters, rolled aluminum tin foil, strips of aluminum tin foil, rolled tissue paper and disposable lighter./REPORTER ADOR VINCENT S. MAYOL
