MANILA, Philippines — All storm signals in the country have been lifted as Tropical Depression Carina slowly moves north, away from the Philippine area of responsibility on Tuesday.
According to the 5:00 p.m. updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Carina was last seen 140 kilometers northwest of Basco, Batanes.
It has maintained its strength, packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 55 kph. However, Carina’s northwest movement slowed down, although it may still weaken into a low-pressure area by Wednesday.
Carina would still bring rains to the northern tip of Luzon, especially the Calayan group of islands and Ilocos Norte tonight, but the weather would gradually improve by Wednesday, along with the rest of the country, as the tropical depression continues to move across Taiwan.
Still, isolated rains are still possible by afternoon and night, due to localized thunderstorms. Temperatures in Metro Manila and Laoag would play around 25 to 33 degrees Celsius, while Iloilo, Cebu, and Tacloban may experience highs of 33 degrees.
In Mindanao, warm and humid weather would also be felt as temperatures range from 25 to 33 degrees in Davao City, 24 to 33 degrees in Zamboanga, and 23 to 32 degrees in Cagayan de Oro.
No gale warning has been raised in any part of the country but Pagasa still advises seafarers and fisherfolk using small boats in Northern Luzon to avoid sailing tonight and on Wednesday as sea condition may still range from moderate to rough in the northern seaboard.
But for the rest of the country, sea conditions would be slight to moderate. [ac]
