Virus infects 32 NAIA personnel

The number of personnel at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) found positive for the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has reached 32 as of Monday.

In the Laging Handa briefing, Manila International Airport Authority General Manager Ed Monreal said that out of the 32 confirmed cases, 10 had recovered while the rest remained in quarantine.

Despite this, there were no plans of shutting down the airport “because it is an important agency in responding to the needs of the country’s aviation industry,” Monreal added.

Offices of the Naia Task Force Against Trafficking and Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking at Terminals 1, 2 and 3 were placed on “strict lockdown” from July 8 to 22 after four of its workers contracted COVID-19.

All of the personnel in these offices would undergo testing aside from going into isolation for 14 days. INQ
