Pampanga town records 4 new COVID-19 cases, 1 death in 2 days

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—From having no coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the last 120 days, the town of Minalin in Pampanga recorded four cases over the last two days, prompting Minalin Mayor Edgar Flores to recommend a lockdown of Barangay (village) Sto. Domingo where the patients reside.

One of the latest cases, a 28-year-old person with a disability, died a day after being admitted to a hospital on Friday, Flores said in a phone interview.

At least 24 of the patient’s contacts were swabbed for testing on Sunday, Flores said.

The three other COVID-19 cases in Minalin tested positive for COVID-19, also on Sunday. They were among 12 of 35 people who got exposed to Case No. 2, a man who also died from COVID-19.

The test results of 27 others will be known on Monday while the town’s first case had already recovered, Flores said.

Three COVID-19 cases remain active in Minalin.

“This is very heartbreaking,” Flores said of the town not being virus-free anymore.

The request to put the village of Sto. Domingo under localized enhanced community quarantine was made to Gov. Dennis Pineda who will then recommend the status to the regional Inter-Agency Task Force for Managing Emerging Infectious Disease.

Of the towns in Pampanga, only Masantol remains COVID-19 free.
