One COVID-19 death logged in Davao region as rise in cases slow down

DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded one death due to the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Davao region on Friday as cases further climbed, although in a slower pace compared to a day earlier.

The patient died in Davao City where six patients also recovered from the disease on Friday, along with one in Davao Oriental.

The regional tally rose by 29 cases on Friday, bringing the total to 718. This is 12 cases lower than the 41 recorded a day earlier.

Of the 29 new cases, 21 are in Davao City, four in Davao del Norte, two in Davao Oriental, and one each in Davao del Sur and Davao de Oro.

The 29 new cases are part of a group of 499 persons who were swabbed and tested for the coronavirus on Friday.

So far, 433 of the 718 total cases in the region have recovered from the disease while 251 are still active — of which 153 are in Davao City.

Of the 251 active cases, 210 displayed no symptoms of the disease.
