PUERTO PRINCESA CITY—The Palawan province’s new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) tally has hit 52 after four more cases were recorded on the island municipality of Cuyo.
Cuyo Mayor Mark Delos Reyes, in a phone interview on Saturday, said the additional cases were still among the locally stranded individuals (LSIs) who returned to the town on June 24.
“This means we now have seven positive cases here in Cuyo, all LSIs who arrived on June 24 [from Metro Manila],” Delos Reyes said.
Their results were part of the 20 swab samples sent to the Ospital Ng Palawan (ONP) GeneXpert laboratory for confirmatory tests over the week. Positive results returned for four female LSIs — a 57-year-old, a 27-year-old, a nine-year-old, and a 50-year-old.
The Palawan province, including Puerto Princesa, has 29 active cases with 22 recoveries and one death.
Of the active cases as of 6 p.m., Saturday, 12 are in Puerto Princesa, seven in Cuyo, six in Bataraza, two in Roxas, and one each for Taytay and Brooke’s Point.
