CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Kindergarten to Grade 12 enrollment in seven Central Luzon provinces climbed to 2.016 million as of July 7, reaching 69 percent of last year’s listing, data from the Department of Education (DepEd) shows.
DepEd says 1,904,111 pupils were enrolled in public schools; 13,164 in the basic literacy program and alternative learning system; and 99,058 in private schools. Enrollment will continue until the start of classes on Aug. 24.
Many parents prefer the use of printed modules and online learning, said Michelle Catap Lacson, public information officer of DepEd in Central Luzon.
The DepEd division here has begun the dry-run of Fernandino Kids TV on the regional network CLTV36. A production team of 20 teachers and artists has been formed to make video lessons for 12,500 kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students, according to Dr. Imelda Macaspac, division superintendent.
Teleskwela
The Teleskwela or school on TV project will air between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. from Monday to Friday starting Aug. 24. Its content shows the most essential learning competencies issued by the DepEd central office that teachers try to localize using stories, games, music, and images.
Macaspac said each student in the Pampanga capital will get a copy of printed modules for the first grading. The city government is backing DepEd with P51.8 million for the purchase of printing machines, paper, ink, video camera, and editing machines.
Macaspac said she had requested the city government to provide 2,000 laptops to teachers in the city.
In Angeles City, 55,000 computer tablets will be given to 55 public schools using P150 million sourced from the special education fund, according to Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr.
