Navy commissions PH newest warship

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT—The Navy’s first missile-capable warship was formally commissioned here on Friday, three weeks after the ceremony was postponed due to the pandemic.

The P8-billion BRP Jose Rizal (FF150) was christened at the Alava Wharf inside this free port.

The ship is the first of two 2,600-ton multimission frigates ordered by the government.

The warship is equipped with missiles, torpedoes and other weapons systems applicable in antisurface, antiair, antisubmarine and electronic warfare.

The ship arrived here on May 23 after a five-day voyage from Ulsan, South Korea. —JOANNA ROSE AGLIBOT
