PUERTO PRINCESA CITY –– The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) region rose to 126, after one active case each was reported in Palawan and Occidental Mindoro provinces on Friday morning.
Mayor Mark Delos Reyes of Cuyo town in Palawan said in a phone interview that the town’s additional case is the 26-year-old mother of a 1-year and 9-month-old child earlier found positive for COVID-19.
The mother is the third infection recorded on the island municipality. The mother and her child arrived in Cuyo on June 24 from Metro Manila.
Delos Reyes said a total of 20 swab samples taken from locally stranded individuals (LSIs) who returned to Cuyo were sent to the Ospital Ng Palawan (ONP) in Puerto Princesa City since Monday, but only the results for the mother and son have been sent back so far.
In Occidental Mindoro, the provincial government said in an advisory posted on Facebook that the 46th confirmed COVID-19 case recorded in the province is a 40-year-old female from Abra de Ilog town. The patient has no known travel history but was a close contact of Occidental Mindoro’s 44th confirmed case.
As of noon on Friday, July 10, Palawan province leads the COVID-19 count in Mimaropa with 48 cases, followed by Occidental Mindoro with 46. Oriental Mindoro has 23 cases while Marinduque has six. Romblon has the lowest number of cases with three.
