Returnee from Cebu City is Leyte town’s 1st COVID-19 patient

TACLOBAN CITY –– A town in Leyte province recorded its first case of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

A 26-year-old male locally stranded individual (LSI), who arrived in Mahaplag town from Cebu City tested positive for the virus, said town Mayor Daisy Lleve.

She said the patient was asymptomatic and was immediately isolated in a quarantine facility.

“Authorities are now conducting contact tracing. I am appealing to the public to stay calm and follow the strict implementation of protocols and most of all, let’s pray together for protection and for us to overcome this pandemic,” said Lleve in a statement.

Eastern Visayas has 614 cases of COVID-19.

The other areas, which registered new COVID-19 cases, were La Paz town in Leyte and Libangon town in Southern Leyte.

Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, meanwhile, announced that the city now has “zero” active COVID-19 cases.

All of the city’s 58 COVID-19 cases, he said, have recovered from the virus.

Romualdez, however, urged Taclobanons to remain vigilant and to strictly follow all the health protocols like the wearing of mask and observance of physical distancing.
