Prosecution in Corona impeachment trial satisfied with Day 3
MANILA, Philippines—Lead House prosecutor Niel Tupas Jr. said they were satisfied with Day 3 of the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona.
He told reporters at a press briefing on Wednesday that they were satisfied that the Chief Justice’s statements of assets, liabilities and net worth, or SALN, from1992 to 2010 were turned over to the Senate impeachment court.
Tupas lauded Senate president Juan Ponce Enrile’s handling of the trial, saying that he was “a very, very fair statesman.”
“What we are asking for is fairness,” Tupas said.
The original copies of Corona’s SALN, turned over to the Senate, were now considered a public record, the lead prosecutor said.
Whether the Chief Justice declared all of his properties and, if he did, the properties were undervalued, would be up to the senator-judges to determine, he said.
