A jogger made a disturbing discovery during her usual morning run in the form of a severed human head, decomposing by the roadside in Florida, United States.
The head was found in St. Petersburg yesterday morning, July 7, by a jogger who immediately reported her discovery to the police, the St. Petersburg Police Department said in a release on the same day.
Authorities believe that the victim did not die at the scene, but noted that the remains most likely have been put there within two days prior to its discovery, as per Fox 13 also on July 7.
Police spokesperson Yolanda Fernandez said that the jogger, whose name was withheld, also jogged on the same path last Sunday, July 6, but did not find the head.
The remains were so badly decomposed that police were not able to find out the victim’s race and gender, the report said. Investigators have since closed off the area to search for additional clues as to where the severed head came from.
Fernandez thinks that the head might not have been discovered earlier because people dismissed it as an animal, she told Tampa Bay Times on the same day.
“A lot of people might have thought it was just an animal but she perceived it really did look like a human,” she was quoted as saying. Ian Biong/JB
