DOJ recommends filing of charges against NBI operatives

/ 06:45 PM January 18, 2012

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Justice (DOJ) recommended the filing of criminal and administrative charges against some officials and personnel of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) after its inquiry on the alleged extortion of NBI operatives on a Japanese National.

DOJ Undersecretary Francisco Baraan III was quoted in a Radyo Inquirer 990 AM report in saying that they have submitted the results of the inquiry conducted by the DOJ fact finding panel of prosecutors which he headed.

However, Baraan did not identify the names of those they recommended to be charges saying that he was not at liberty to disclose the identities adding that it is now the president who has authority since the recommendation has already been submitted.

The investigation was initiated after a Norio Ohara, a Japanese national, revealed that NBI operatives had “kidnapped” and extorted money from him.
