Bicolana Gabriela demands immediate release of head

LEGAZPI CITY –– The regional chapter of women’s rights group Gabriela demanded the immediate release of their head, who was arrested for murder in Nabua town, Camarines Sur on Tuesday.

Jenelyn Nagrampa, 37, chairperson of Bicolana Gabriela, was arrested at her residence in Barangay San Isidro Poblacion around 11 a.m., said Nica Ombao, regional coordinator and spokesperson of Bicolana Gabriela.

Nagrampa is accused of being part of an ambush in Ragay town on May 13, 2018, where two soldiers were killed.

“We call for the dismissal of this case, the immediate release of Jen Nagrampa and for the junking of the anti-terror law,” Ombao said.

She said Nagrampa, a village councilor, was busy campaigning for the barangay elections and had just given birth when the incident happened.

“This is another fascist attack from the state and state forces. This is not the first trumped-up case filed against a progressive individual and it will not be the last, especially with the anti-terror law looming over us,” Ombao said.

Nagrampa, who was also the national vice-chairperson of Gabriela and the chairperson of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan Bicol, is facing two counts of murder without bail recommendation under RTC Branch 56 in Libmanan town.
