51 arrested as cops raid illegal POGO in Makati

Fifty-one Philippine offshore gaming operator (Pogo) workers composed of 50 Chinese nationals and a Burmese were arrested for operating without the required permits.

The Makati police discovered the illegal operations of Hua Xin Global Support Inc. around 9 p.m. Monday at the fifth floor of a condominium on J. Victor Street, around 400 meters from the Pio del Pilar barangay hall, after receiving tips from concerned citizens.A report submitted to city police chief Police Col. Oscar Jacildo said the Pogo workers were caught engaged in online gambling activities in their cramped living quarters. They were charged with resistance and disobedience to persons in authority (Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code) in relation to Mayor Abby Binay’s Executive Order No. 11, outlining the general community guidelines in Makati City.

The suspects also face charges of violation of Presidential Decree No. 1602 (antigambling law) and Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. INQ
