A woman from Texas, USA, beat COVID-19 while pregnant, and then welcomed three healthy babies in June.
The woman, only identified as Maggie, discovered she was positive for the virus during a hospital visit in May, the Woman’s Hospital of Texas recounted in a Facebook post on Saturday, July 4. At the time, she was 28 weeks pregnant.
Maggie did not know how she got the virus since she had been quarantined since March 23. Her husband also tested positive for coronavirus.
“Maggie’s main concern was everyone but herself. She worried about the health of the triplets, her husband and their [5-year-old] son, as well as the nurses and physicians caring for her,” the hospital said.
While recovering from COVID-19 at the hospital, she only had the nurses for company and kept in touch with family through video calls.
“Maggie shared that not only did her nurses learn her routine and anticipate her needs, but they would sit with her for an hour at a time, sweating under their PPE, just to keep her company,” Woman’s Hospital of Texas wrote.
By the time she tested negative twice for the virus, she had to face another health emergency. During a weekly ultrasound on June 4, it was found that one baby had a cord around her neck.
Maggie needed to undergo a C-section that day, but her husband could not be with her since he was still awaiting negative results. Her mother instead was there for support, while family stayed online to make their presence felt.
Though the babies were born prematurely, all were “healthy and safe” as they came two minutes apart from each other.
Triplets Isabella, Nathaniel and Adriel have been staying at the neonatal intensive care unit for the past month. Maggie has been visiting them daily, and the three are growing “bigger and healthier by the day.” /ra
