Eastern Visayas records 14 new COVID-19 cases

TACLOBAN CITY – At least 14 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases have been recorded in Eastern Visayas on Friday, bringing the total number of infections in the region to 577.

Of the 14 new cases, one was a returning overseas worker while the rest were locally stranded individuals (LSIs).

The town of Albuera, Leyte registered its first COVID-19 case involving a 26-year-old man who arrived from Cebu City.

Mayor Sixto de la Victoria, however, assured the people of Albuera that there is nothing to fear since the patient was already isolated in a facility.

“I ask for your prayers and cooperation,’ he said in a post on Facebook.

Tacloban City, for its part, registered two new COVID-19 cases involving two female LSIs. The city now has 57 cases where 23 have recovered from the dreaded ailment.

Palo town Mayor Frances Anne Petilla also announced that three more persons in the municipality contracted the virus, raising their total number of cases to 21.

Two of the new cases involved LSIs while the other one was a returning overseas worker from Kuwait.

The other new cases were from the town of Bato, Leyte (2), Bontoc, Southern Leyte (2); and one each from the towns of Villaba, Tolosa, Leyte-Leyte, and Carigara—all in Leyte.
