Biliran province to have quarantine center for frontliners with COVID-19

TACLOBAN CITY –– The province of Biliran will soon have its isolation center for health workers and other frontliners who are infected with the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Rep. Gerardo Espina, Jr. of the lone district of Biliran said construction of the two-story facility with a 50-bed capacity would start immediately.

The building worth P7.5 million, he said, would rise at the 600-square meter lot donated by the provincial government through Gov. Rogelio Espina in Barangay Larrazabal, Naval town.

The Department of Health in Eastern Visayas recently reported that at least 102 health workers in the region were infected with the dreaded virus.

Espina said he hoped the facility would be completed within a month by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

He said the needed funding was available through the help of Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, the majority floor leader of the Lower House.

Biliran has at least 17 cases of COVID-19.

Eight of its new cases involve locally stranded individuals.
