Senate peers pay tribute to Sen. Ramon Revilla Sr.

MANILA, Philippines — The Senate on Wednesday paid tribute to the late Sen. Ramon Revilla Sr., who was praised by his former colleagues for his humble beginnings as a gas station worker before becoming an action superstar and senator.

“Daddy, thank you for everything … You are my hero,” said his son and namesake, Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., in an emotional eulogy during necrological rites held at the Senate plenary hall.

“I told you that I will clear my name and prove that [my accusers] are wrong,” the senator, who was jailed over the P10-billion pork barrel scam, said in tears.

The older Revilla, who served as senator for 12 years, died at the age of 93 on June 26 due to heart failure.
