MANILA, Philippines — A total of 31 barangays in five of Manila’s six districts would be placed on lockdown for 48 hours beginning on Saturday, July 4, after each one recorded at least three cases of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the past two weeks.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, through Executive Order No. 31, ordered the implementation of the lockdown in the 31 areas which would ban residents from leaving their houses as health care workers conduct disease surveillance, risk assessment and testing.
The 48-hour lockdown would take effect in the following: Barangays 20, 41, 51, 56, 66, 96, 97, 101, 106, 116, 118, 120, 128 and 129 in District 1; Barangays 163, 173, 180, 185 and 215 in District 2; and Barangays 275, 310, 343 and 380 in District 3.
In District 5, the affected areas are Barangays 649, 724, 766, 775 and 811 while in District 6, these are Barangays 836, 846 and 847. Front-liners like health care workers, policemen, media, barangay personnel and those working in pharmacies, funeral homes, utility companies and city ports are exempted from the lockdown measures. Nonessential establishments, on the other hand, will remain shut during the 48-hour period. Citing a certificate from the Manila Health Department, Domagoso said in his executive order that there were a total of 147 COVID-19 cases in the 31 villages.
As of Saturday, the city had 2,132 confirmed cases.
