3 ‘persons of interest’ eyed in slaying of Laguna driver

SAN PEDRO CITY –– Police have identified three persons of interest in the killing of Robyn Jang Lucero, a female car rental driver who was found dead in Calamba City, Laguna.

Careful not to disclose information that might preempt an ongoing investigation, Lt. Col. Gene Licud, city police chief, said the victim most likely “knew personally” the people behind the killing.

“We are more inclined (to believe) it’s a case of love triangle rather than (concerning Lucero’s job as a driver),” Licud said in a phone interview, Wednesday.

Lucero, from Pasay City in Metro Manila, was found dead with multiple stab wounds in her car that was abandoned along the Bucal bypass road in Barangay Maunong on June 28.

Licud said that before that, somebody had “booked” or hired Lucero online for a ride.

Licud said they have identified the “persons of interest” based on what they have found out from an online “group chat” of a lesbian and bisexual community.

The police were also still tracing the people, who supposedly hired Lucero that evening, to see if it were just a ruse to lure the victim.

According to the police, Lucero used to work in a high-end bar in Quezon City before the coronavirus pandemic closed down restaurant and food businesses.

The victim then resorted to car rental, booking her passengers through social media.

Licud said Lucero had a partner from Bay, Laguna, where the family plans to bury her this week.
