Lockdown to be enforced on street in Pampanga capital with 3 COVID-19 cases

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—A street of a village in this Pampanga capital would be shut off from the rest of the town to prevent local transmission of SARS Cov2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

Mayor Edwin Santiago ordered a strict lockdown, or enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), enforced on Pongking Street at the village of Panipuan here starting on Wednesday (July 1) at noon.

He said the situation on the street was “critical” because at least 20 people had been isolated after they were found to be the close contacts of three new COVID-19 cases there.

Santiago also placed the entire sub-village of 7 at the village under general community quarantine, a more relaxed lockdown measure.

The mayor announced this in a video posted on social media at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (June 30).

One of the fresh cases was the infection of a vendor in the Pampang Public Market in Angeles City, who died of COVID-19 last week.

At least 1,239 vendors and stall owners had been required by Angeles City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin to undergo rapid coronavirus tests. Two other men have been isolated, according to Lazatin.
