MANILA, Philippines – Suspected “shabu” (crystal meth), with an estimated market value of P1.3 million, and stashed inside a bag, was left at a baggage counter of a supermarket in Makati City Friday.
The bag containing the illegal substance has since been surrendered to the Makati police by the establishment’s security agency on Sunday.
According to the Makati City police, an unidentified male suspect left the bag containing the suspected illegal drugs at the baggage counter of a supermarket in Barangay Comembo, Makati City.
The said baggage was left unclaimed until the supermarket’s closing time.
At around 2:00 pm last Saturday, an unidentified male suspect tried to claim the bag, but failed to present a claim stub. This prompted the supermarket’s security personnel to check the contents of the bag, leading to the discovery of suspected illegal drugs.
The supermarket’s security agency reported the incident and surrendered the item to the police on Sunday morning.
The police promptly conducted a surveillance operation for the possible apprehension of the owner of the suspected drugs.
However, no person appeared to claim the bag, until closing time making the security agency surrender the bag to the police.
Authorities recovered 200.69 grams of suspected shabu valued at P1, 304,485, which will be referred to the Southern Police District Crime Laboratory Office for examination. (Jim Mendoza, Trainee)
