DAGUPAN CITY—La Union province’s remaining active COVID-19 case was listed as a fatality after the death of an 81-year-old patient in the town of Aringay on Monday (June 29).
Mayor Eric Sibuma, of Aringay town, said the 81-year-old patient died at the Ilocos Training and Medical Center where he had been confined since June 28.
The infected man was the province’s and the town’s lone COVID-19 patient.
“Let his death be a force to remind us of our yearning to stave off this monstrous disease,” Sibuma said in a statement.
The patient was a registered resident of Valenzuela City who went back to Samara village in Aringay on June 21 to get care from his immediate family.
The patient’s respiratory samples were taken after the province’s contract tracing and diagnostic team received a report that he did not show symptoms. The test yielded a positive result.
With his death, La Union has now five deaths due to COVID-19 and had a total of 24 cases. The province is under a modified general community quarantine.
