MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has renewed the franchise of Zamboanga-based firm Golden Broadcast Professional, Inc. (GBP) for another 25 years.
Duterte signed Republic Act No. 11477 on June 25, 2020, which extended the franchise granted to GBP under Republic Act No. 8025.
The law allows GBP to “construct, install, establish, operate and maintain for commercial purposes and in the public interest, radio and/or television broadcasting stations” in the Philippines for another 25 years.
It also requires the broadcast firm to secure appropriate permits and licenses for the construction and operation of its stations or facilities from the National Telecommunication Commission.
Further, the law mandates GBP to provide “free of charge” and “adequate public service time” to enable the government to relay important public announcements concerning emergencies and calamities.
Founded in 1992, GBP operates a radio and TV station affiliated with Quest Broadcasting Inc. and TV5 Network, Inc.
