A politician’s daughter went viral after she urged people via social media to not vote for her father who is running for a seat in the Michigan state House in the United States.
Stephanie Regan has been lauded by netizens and her father herself for her tweet on June 24, in which she pleaded to voters: “if you’re in [Michigan] and 18+ pls for the love of god do not vote for my dad for state rep. tell everyone.”
Her tweet has taken the internet by storm, gaining more than 187,600 likes and almost 40,000 retweets just in the last three days.

Regan followed up in another tweet the next day: “Since so many people are asking it is Robert Regan! Do a quick [Facebook] or google search to find info about his campaign. I don’t feel safe in sharing further information regarding his beliefs, but please look him up and just read for yourself.”
Robert, who describes himself as “so conservative [he] makes Rush Limbaugh” in his campaign website, is a Republican candidate pushing to make English as the official language in the state and opposing abortion and immigration reform, among others.
The candidate noted that he thinks their opposing beliefs on systemic racism, white privilege and the Black Lives Matter movement might have prompted his daughter to post the tweet, as per The Hill on June 25.
Robert also believes that his daughter’s education from “liberal university campuses” like the University of Colorado, where his daughter studied, was to blame for their opposing views.
“[They] just kind of get sucked into this Marxist, communist ideology and she and I just don’t see eye to eye when it comes to the whole socialism, communism, Marxist philosophy,” he was quoted as saying.
He also noted that he does not “buy into this systemic racism thing at all,” amid the ongoing Black Lives Matter protests following the death of George Floyd.
Robert has also publicly addressed his daughter’s tweet by posting a statement on Facebook yesterday, June 26.
“I am happy that she feels confident enough in our relationship to express her opposing thoughts so publicly,” the candidate said. “Every human being has a divine spirit within them that entitles them to be respected and listened to.” Ian Biong /ra
