Zamboanga Del Norte town police chief nabbed for robbery-extortion

MANILA, Philippines — The police chief of a town in Zamboanga del Norte was arrested on Thursday afternoon for alleged robbery-extortion, the Philippine National Police – Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) said on Friday.

In a report, PNP-IMEG chief Police Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee identified the suspect as  Captain Haran Ulah, chief of the Godod Municipal Police Station.

Lee said operatives of the PNP-IMEG Mindanao Field Unity and Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office nabbed Ulah during an entrapment operation at the Godod police station at 4:58 p.m. Ulah was apprehended after he received P5,000 from a complainant.

Prior to the arrest, a complainant sought the help of PNP-IMEG after Ulah allegedly demanded P10,000 in exchange for “unhampered treasure hunting activities” at Sitio Riverside in Barangay Raba in Godod.

Seized from Ulah were the marked P5,000 cash, an M16 rifle, a cal. 45 pistol and two cellphones.

Ulah is now detained at the Zamboanga Police Provincial Office while a case for robbery extortion is being prepared against him.
