Targeted testing shows 13 Cavite cops infected with COVID-19 — Remulla

MANILA, Philippines — Thirteen police officers have turned out positive for the coronavirus disease during targetted testing in Cavite, Governor Jonvic Remulla said on Friday.

“Thirteen police officers tested positive. Their sacrifice being in the frontline deserves our honor and respect,” said Remulla in a Facebook post, as he urged Cavite residents to strictly follow quarantine protocols.

“Let’s follow the policies,” he added. “Let us not allow to go to waste all the hard work of the medical and police frontliners who got sick so you could just loiter around and have fun,” Remulla said.

It was not immediately clear if the 13 police officers have already undergone reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction COVID-19 tests as confirmatory tests.

While the social media-savvy leader said he understands the need for a work-life balance, Remulla urged his constituents to “understand the risk you are taking.”

He then advised Cavite residents to just stay at home as much as possible.

“I repeat: Staying home saves lives,” Remulla said.

Meanwhile, over 2,000 overseas Filipino workers have returned to Cavite, according to the governor.

“All of them have registered. If they need help with testing, then we will do everything we can. Let us treat them with compassion and gratitude,” he said.
