MANILA, Philippines–A magnitude 4 earthquake shook a large swath of Central Luzon early morning Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded.
The quake centered 26 kilometers southeast of Mayantoc town in Tarlac and struck at a shallow depth of 14 kilometers.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injury from the 2:53 a.m. tremor.
It was felt at Intensity II in Bamban and Capas in Tarlac and Mabalacat City in Pampanga.
Instrumental intensities were recorded at Intensity II in Palayan City and Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija and Intensity I in Magalang in Pampanga and Gapan City in Nueva Ecija.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
