2 Albay village officials gunned down
LEGAZPI CITY — Two village officials were shot and killed on Wednesday night by still unidentified gunmen in a remote village of Jovellar town in Albay province, police said on Thursday.
Capt. Milard Bongalon, Jovellar police chief, identified the victims as Arthur Clemente, 41, a village councilman, and Edel Brando Moina, 57, village treasurer, both of Barangay San Isidro.
Bongalon, in a phone interview, said the shooting incident occurred at the residence of Sonny Medravillo while the victims were having a drinking spree at the porch at around 6:50 p.m.
Two suspects armed with handguns approached and fired several rounds at the victims, killing them instantly.
Bongalon said investigation is still going on to determine the identities of the suspects and the possible motive for the killing.
Article continues after this advertisementEarlier on Wednesday morning, a policeman also died and three others were wounded in an ambush staged by the New People’s Army in the same village.
