A woman allegedly coughed on a 1-year-old’s face on purpose after getting mad at the child’s mother for supposedly violating social distancing rules in California, United States.
The still-unidentified white woman was caught on surveillance camera walking over to the baby on a stroller, removed her mask and coughed at the baby at least two times, as per ABC7 News yesterday, June 23.
The mother, Mireya Mora, said she and her son were falling in line at a yogurt restaurant on June 12 when the said woman got mad and told her that they were getting too close to her.
Mora, who is Hispanic, added that she thinks the act was racially motivated. The mother said there was a white family in front of the woman and that she started “harassing” Mora’s family when she started talking in Spanish with her grandmother.
“Coughing on someone’s face. She did it on purpose it’s not like she did it on accident, oh cough, cough — no she purposely coughed on my son’s face,” Mora said in the report.
The mother noted that her son did have a slight fever after the incident but is doing well now.
“It happened so quick I was in shock. She got close, she took off her mask, and she coughed three times super hard on my son’s face,” Mora added.
Mora also shared in an interview with NBC Bay Area on June 22 that the woman made statements she felt were racist.
“She said, ‘so you don’t understand, and do you even understand what I’m saying, like I’m not even speaking English,'” Mora was quoted as saying.
The San Jose Police Department has since asked the public for help to look for the woman, who is believed to be in her 60s. She is now wanted for assault. Ian Biong/JB
