Manila marks 449th year with tribute to frontliners
MANILA, Philippines — An online tribute to health-care workers serving at the front line of the war against the new coronavirus disease will be one of the highlights of Manila’s 449th founding anniversary celebration.
The tribute to air on Facebook Live will focus on the bravery of the front-liners, according to Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila chief Charlie Duñgo.
The city government will also break ground on the new Ospital ng Maynila followed by a virtual meeting with health care workers and a noontime Mass at the Manila Cathedral. Historical buildings and landmarks located in the city like the Manila clock tower, National Museum, Rizal Monument, Fort Santiago, Manila Post Office, Jones Bridge and Mehan Garden will participate in a simultaneous lighting at 6:30 p.m.
