DOTr ‘Libreng Sakay’ program reaches 1.2 million ridership

MANILA, Philippines – More than 1.2 million health workers have been served by the government’s “Libreng Sakay” program during the coronavirus disease pandemic.

In a statement on Facebook on Tuesday, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) reported that the free bus service has reached a total of 1,203,177 in ridership, wherein 348,092 came from NCR-Greater Manila, while 855,085 from different regions.

Earlier, the free bus service for health workers provided by the DOTr amid public transportation restrictions due to health quarantine protocols reached more than 940,000 in ridership back on May 26.

At the same time, location tracker devices were installed in each bus operating within the Greater Manila Area enabling riders to determine when and where the buses will arrive through sakay.ph website and mobile app.

Meanwhile, the DOTr said they are ready to deploy dedicated service vehicles to different “We Heal as One Centers” located in Filinvest Tent, Alabang; Philippine Sports Complex, Pasig City and Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Quezon City as they continue to serve medical workers coming from Ninoy Aquino Stadium, Rizal Memorial Stadium, Philippines International Convention Center, and World Trade Center.

The DOTr also reminded the public that all expressways in Luzon remain to be toll-free for medical workers. (Jim Mendoza, Trainee)
