MANILA, Philippines — The monsoon break or a pause in the rains brought by the southwest monsoon or “Habagat” would translate to a hot and humid weather for most parts of the country in the coming days, state meteorologists said on Monday.
Latest weather forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that that this monsoon break is intensified by the ridge of a high pressure area east of Luzon, which prevents the formation of clouds.
“Mapapansin din na napaka-dalang ng mga kaulapan na namumuo sa bahaging ito ng Karagatang Pasipiko, maging sa nakararaming bahagi ng ating bansa. Bunsod ‘yan sa umiiral na ridge of high pressure area na naka-extend nga,” weather specialist Chris Perez said.
(We can observe that there are no clouds forming in this portion of the Pacific Ocean near the Philippines, and even in other parts of the country. That is because of the prevailing ridge of high pressure, which is extended up to the east of Luzon.)
“Walang hangin na manggagaling dito sa southwest direction, generally sa susunod sa dalawa hanggang tatlong araw makakaranas pa rin tayo ng tinatawag natin na monsoon break, or wala po tayong mararanasang pag-ulan na dulot nga ng hanging Habagat,” he added.
(No wind patterns would originate from the southwest direction which means that in the next two to three days we would experience a monsoon break, where we would not see any rains caused by the southwest monsoon.)
Despite the warm weather, light occasional rains may still be experienced due to localized thunderstorms. In Metro Manila and Lipa, temperatures may play between 25 to 34 degrees Celsius, while it may reach to as high as 36 degrees in Tuguegarao.
Temperatures in Cebu, Iloilo, Bacolod, and Tacloban, meanwhile, rise again to 26 to 32 degrees Celsius, as the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) only affects southern parts of Mindanao.
Despite high expected temperatures in Mindanao especially in Davao, rains may occur due to the ITCZ.
No gale warning has been raised which means that fisherfolk using small boats may be allowed to set sail again, with sea condition in any part of the country being slight to moderate only.
