Party leads to hike in COVID-19 cases at Navotas village

MANILA, Philippines — The Navotas government will be filing charges against people who partied at their house, resulting in the spread of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on a street in Barangay Navotas West.

In a text message to the Inquirer on Sunday, Mayor Toby Tiangco said the family event happened on H. Monroy Street on May 19, when mass gatherings were banned.

Of the 10 people who tested positive in swab tests after attending the party, one had died.

According to Irish Cubillan, city public information office chief, the testing was done between the last week of May and the first week of June.

On May 28, Navotas West had six confirmed cases which jumped to 12 after two days and then rose to 24 cases on June 8. This prompted the city government to put H. Monroy Street under targeted lockdown from June 10 to 24.
